About

The GPnotebook Podcast is a bite-sized, regular chat for all healthcare professionals working in primary care. Episodes cover clinical tips and “hacks” as well as hot topics, with the aim of making our working lives a little easier and helping to improve the lives of our patients.

Who hosts the podcast?

Dr Kevin Fernando

The podcast is hosted by Dr Kevin Fernando (FRCGP, FRCP Edin., FAcadMEd, MSc Diabetes), a GP partner at North Berwick Health Centre, GPwSI Diabetes and Medical Education and Scottish Lead of the Primary Care Diabetes Society. Kevin’s other roles include RCGP Clinical Advisor for diabetes and multimorbidity and Education Director for GPnotebook Education – a new series of primary care update courses in conjunction with GPnotebook. Kevin graduated from Edinburgh University in 2000 and holds both MRCGP and MRCP(UK) qualifications and has completed a Master’s degree in diabetes, which he passed with distinction. Finally, he has been elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and also the Academy of Medical Educators for his work in diabetes and medical education.

How can I listen?

You can listen to podcast episodes on this site, or you can listen or subscribe to the podcast on the platform or app of your choice.

What are “Pro” episodes?

Pro episodes are exclusive episodes for GPnotebook Pro members. You can find out more about GPnotebook Pro and try it for free here.

How do I get Pro episodes on my device?

GPnotebook Pro members will have access to a private feed containing Pro episodes. The feed can be added manually to many podcast apps, including Apple Podcasts and Overcast. Instructions on how to do this can be found here.

What are sponsored episodes?

The episodes that comprise the core of the podcast are 100% editorially independent, with content generated by the host and any contributors. These episodes are made available to listeners without charge and are not supported by advertising revenue.

The cost of producing the podcast is funded in part by hosting a limited number of additional episodes on behalf of third parties, including pharmaceutical companies. These episodes are clearly marked as “Sponsored”, and details of the sponsoring company are provided on the episode page. Because GPnotebook has had no input into or control over the content of such sponsored episodes, we do not include them in the podcast RSS feed that serves platforms such as Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
